Burn the

boats.

Fixafire was born on a 3,200 mile trans-continental journey across the United States. Chris ran a marathon each day from the Statue of Liberty to Venice Beach, and I captured stories of those we met along the way. As we went West, we explored the state of addiction recovery in America. We lived on turkey sandwiches, white cheddar cheez-its and chocolate milk in a 29’ motorhome we affectionately named Riv.

We set out to learn about others, but ended up learning more about ourselves. The journey wasn’t always easy, but it was always ours. And along the way, we discovered that nothing is more powerful than being inspired.

Burning the boats is the philosophy of removing any possibility of retreat. It’s the philosophy that inspires our purpose-driven studio. It’s rooted in a traditional advertising experience, and hell-bent on undoing the traditional advertising experience. It starts at understanding why your brand exists and how it can stand alone — then how it can stand for something more.

We’re not immune to conference call language — strategic positioning, visual identity, messaging, design, and content — but we do it with passion, humility, and a strict no asshole policy.

We’re fiercely independent because we don’t know another way. After all, we burned the boats.
